AboutAs part of our Urban design studio, the students were divided into groups, and each group was given a different municipality of the city of Rome to design a masterplan with the underlying concept of P.O.L. (Permeable Organic Lands).

In Municipio XIV, uncontrolled and informal growth has ripped up the land, consuming valuable green areas. Our plan focuses on recovering the district’s linear forests, whose vein-like structure offer the potential for biodiverse corridors by reforesting their gaps with local trees to create connected biodiverse corridors. These corridors aim to facilitate the expansion and connection of animal habitats.

Empty and broken-up plots of land were redeveloped as agricultural land, in keeping with the image of the district as the "Agricultural Park.“ Moreover, to connect the isolated and overlooked areas, we intended to enhance soft infrastructure to foster the interconnectivity among communities.

At the heart of the proposal is the Agrihub, a building intervention that links cycle routes across valleys and also encompasses community events, markets, and learning spaces. Not only does the Agrihub harvest crops from local fields, but it also cultivates indigenous tree species in a nursery in order to support reforestation in the P.O.L. system.

By combining ecological restoration, local agriculture, and infrastructures of relation, our masterplan for Municipio XIV reconstitutes broken-up lands as a living system—one that is productive, resilient, and rooted in local identity.
